Karl Lagerfield for Macy's

After the frenzy created by Lanvin for H&M, it seems like it's the best idea for high-end designers to do a limited edition capsule collection for a department store.

Karl Lagerfield will be doing just that. He will launch a capsule collection next fall for Macy's. The collection will be part of a new designer initiative that Macy’s will launch next year in which designers create capsule collections for the store’s Impulse department. (WWD)

“Karl Lagerfeld holds a unique place in the world of fashion, an icon who is the ultimate modernist,” said Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc. “Through the decades, his style and vision have marked the history of design. It is a tremendous honor to bring his inimitable perspective to our fashion customer.” (WWD)

The masstige move is a great winning formula for both designers and retailers. In 2004 Karl Lagerfield worked with H&M to create a capsule collection and it was a success. His work has always proven to be phenomenol, and by next year everyone can have a Karl Lagerfield dress or a shirt in their own closet.
